What personal data we collect and why we collect it

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

After approval of your comment, your limited profile information is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Contact forms

We have contact forms sitewide. These forms require you to submit your FULL NAME, EMAIL ADDRESS, and a MESSAGE. Adding your SKYPE ID is optional, and would help us in further communication.

The information submitted to these forms goes directly to Steve Devereux and Andrew Mackay who will contact you on a personal basis.

Your details will not be added to any company database, mailing list or for any other aggregated purpose.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

We use Google Analytics. To comply with the disclosure obligations with respect to Google’s use of data, here is a link to How Google uses data in respect of their partners’ sites or apps.

Who we share your data with

If you submit your details through the enquiry form, and we are unable to agree to a commercial arrangement, then your data won't be passed to anyone. In this situation. Steve or Andrew would keep your details on record so that if you come back, they will know what was previously discussed.

If you arrange a business contract, all details will be written into a new agreement. This agreement will supercede the general guidelines of this website.

We have no desire or intention of ever passing on your email address or any other private information for the purposes of sales or marketing.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

The information that you send through a contact form will remain in the records of Steve or Andrew indefinitely. Or at least for as long as there is a reason to indicate that they might be mutually useful in the future.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service. Other client data will be kept in the personal inboxes and computers of Steve and Andrew.

Your contact information

Your email address, Skype ID and any other contact information will be kept as long as there is dialogue, or reason to think that there might be future communication.

Additional information

How we protect your data

We make every effort to update software, choose internet hosting companies that are GDPR compliant, and any other security measures necessary.

We realise that we work with legal cases and sensitive documents. We keep abreast of the latest in cybersecurity protocol.

In addition, we make sure that your information is shared on a 'need to know' basis. We only connect to the internet on secure networks. Our computers and electronic devices are password protected.

What data breach procedures we have in place

Since we are individual consultants, dealing with a relatively small database, there is less exposure and risk of a leak.

In the event that there is a data breach, you will be informed immediately if we're working on an ongoing contract. If the data is historic and less sensitive, we reserve the right to inform you of any breach within 30 days.

What third parties we receive data from

As previously mentioned, we use Google to provide aggregated data to track the performance of our website. Other than that, we would include third party data disclosure in our commercial agreement with you. For example, if we provide expert witness services for a legal case, your legal team will be fully aware of our court and legal interactions.

Steve Devereux is registered with the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and abides by their rules and code of conduct.
